WHAT IS PROPRICEPTIVE NEUROMUSCULAR FACILITATION (PNF)?
Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) is an advanced form of flexibility training that involves the contraction and stretching of muscles. This technique was initially developed as a part of the neuromuscular rehabilitation programme. But now it is used for a variety of training and exercise purposes because of its perceived effectiveness. PNF stretching relies on reflexes to produce deeper stretches that increase flexibility. Patient symptoms usually include:
- Tightness of muscle that restricts motion
- Neurological or neuromuscular disease symptoms
- Decreased muscle flexibility or range of motion
